As you leave the coast and move inland, the landscape turns into a Renaissance painting. Our hills unfold in a series of cultivated fields that shift in color with the seasons, scattered with walled villages that hold artistic treasures.
The Historic Villages
ancient walls and landscapes stretching beyond the horizon
Surrounding Morro d’Alba are small towns that feel suspended in time, ideal for afternoons devoted to culture and photography.
Corinaldo: Recognized as one of the “Borghi più belli d’Italia) (Most Beautiful Villages in Italy), it will amaze you with its imposing 14th-century city walls, entirely walkable on foot for almost 1 km. Do not miss the “Piaggia”, the famous staircase of one hundred steps in the center of the town.
Jesi: The birthplace of Emperor Frederick II, Jesi is known as a “royal city”. Refined and distinguished, it features outstanding museums (including the Civic Art Gallery, home to works by Lorenzo Lotto) and a historic center surrounded by imposing walls.
Mondavio: Home to the Rocca Roveresca, a masterpiece of Renaissance military architecture. When you visit, you can stroll along the old ramparts and see the period war machines on display.
The Subterranean Wonder
The Frasassi Caves
(Distance: approximately 50 minutes)
You shouldn’t leave the Marche without visiting the Frasassi Caves. Situated within the Gola della Rossa Natural Park, they form an underground complex of breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites. The first chamber, the “Ancona Abyss”, is so vast that it could hold Milan Cathedral inside.
Vigna Sant’Amico’s Advice: If you enjoy walking, after your visit to the caves, head up to the Temple of Valadier. It is an octagonal sanctuary literally carved into the mountain rock—a mystical place offering peace and a stunning view over the gorge.
Picture-Perfect Landscapes
vineyards and views stretching all the way to the sea
The journey from one village to another is an experience in its own right. The roads linking Morro d’Alba with Ostra, Belvedere Ostrense and San Marcello offer what we call “the landscape curves”: gentle rolling hills, perfect for cycling enthusiasts or for anyone who simply wants to get lost driving through Lacrima vineyards and fields of sunflowers (spectacular from June to July).
